The Awakening

Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself

— Coco Chanel

On January 2, 2013, the little girl who was sleeping inside me finally woke up!

I still remember it like it was yesterday. We were four friends, champagne in hand--or maybe it was sparkling wine--wondering what our resolutions would be for this year. The kids were playing upstairs and there we were, discussing the past, our uncertain futures, knowing the coming year would probably be awfully similar to the one that just ended.

Cheers to the new year!

I want to join the gym this year…

I also want to get into great shape…

And I want to cut back on the pasta and bread…

What about you Pascale?

This year I want to live my life!

One of my friends responded with “You’ve already lived plenty, I was right there beside you!”

That’s not what I meant.

I wasn’t actually sure at the moment what I did mean, but I knew that I felt deeply miserable, completely lost, unaccomplished and incomplete.

I had conformed.

I had erased myself.

The 3 last years of my life have been a real roller-coaster of emotions, but the most important thing to come out of it was revisiting my lost childhood dreams and finally breathing life into them.

This little girl finally gave herself permission to be a woman!

Is the little girl in you still sleeping? Wake her up and ask her… what are your dreams?
